History
Elandsfontein Farmlands was the original name given to the area where Bedfordview now stands. The Witwatersrand Gold Reef had a major impact on the area back in the day. Elandsfontein was bought for the mineral rights, then divided into smaller farms and smallholdings, many of which were settled by retired miners. The entire area became known as Geldenhuis Estates Smallholdings.
A naming competition was held to give the place its significant name. The competition was won by a local lass who suggested that the Bedford Farm had a lovely view.
The smallholding had grown into a small community by 1932. On 26 July 1928, the first Bedfordview Scout Troop, as well as a government school and a post office, opened their doors.
